I grew up in Hungary, in a kitchen run by my mum, Maria, who is known for her cakes, and my Oma, who showed her love through food. This book collects the recipes I grew up with, written down properly for my son, niece and nephew, and now for you.
At the heart of the book are the great Hungarian desserts and the soups, stews and dumplings that fill a Hungarian home with warmth, with treasures from Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Dutch and Scandinavian kitchens too.

I grew up in Hungary with my mum, Maria, and my Oma. Our home was constantly filled with the smell of something baking in the oven, or the smell of paprika from a pot that was always cooking away on the stovetop. There was never a time when something wasn't simmering, rising or cooling on the bench.
Oma showed her love through food. Every time we came to the table, there was always something cooked and something baked waiting for us. Feeding the people she loved was simply who she was.

Rum Balls
Rumgolyó
Every Hungarian grandmother has a tin of rumgolyó hidden somewhere in December. Rich with chocolate, walnuts and a good splash of dark rum, with a children's version too.
Hungary's iconic herdsman's soup, rich with paprika, tender beef and vegetables. It is still the dish Hungarians are proudest of. The soup should be rich and paprika-red.
Tight spirals of buttery yeasted dough around poppy seed or walnut filling. Oma always made two walnut and two poppy seed rolls, and judged them by their crust.

Can I print it?
Yes. It's laid out on A4, so you can print the whole book or just the pages you need. Colour looks best, but black and white works fine for cooking.
Will anything be posted to me?
No. It's a digital download only.
How do I download it?
Checkout is handled securely by Payhip. Once your payment is confirmed, you'll get a download link on screen and by email.
Are the photos of your own cooking?
No. The food images are digitally created illustrations showing how each dish is traditionally presented.
Is it suitable for allergies?
The A–Z index marks recipes that are gluten-free, dairy-free or vegetarian, or that contain tree nuts. The markers are a guide based on each recipe's ingredients, so please always check packaged ingredient labels.
